Things that go missing

Things that go missing with each later version of Microsoft products

Windows

  • In XP, when the LAN is disconnected, whether wifi or wired, a distinctive red x shows on the System Notification Area. This catches your eye always. In Windows 10, you have to deliberate go and find out whether your network connection is broken.
  • When VPN is connected, a key symbol was previously shown in the System Notification Area. This is now missing in Windows 10. People whose lives are in danger if their IP is exposed now faces the risk of death should there be a temporary physical network disruption.
  • Prior to Windows 10, the list of updates applied or failed are shown clearly in a compact list. In Windows 10, the list now occupies three times the amount of space, and it cannot be sorted by Success or Failed.
  • Title bar of active window is of a different (configurable) color. I can know whether I can start typing or not. Now, I have to click a window before typing.
